arise, nostalgiac
MAR - AUG 2025
Led by a series of poetic and prophetic notes, ‘arise, nostalgiac’ follows boyish Sinis as he attempts to understand who he is, once was, and can be no longer.
‘arise, nostalgiac’ is the second film written and directed by Lucien Clough and Luke Opalack. Filmed over the course of one week and edited by Luke and Lucien over the course of a whole summer, the short features music from Canadian musician Hugh Christopher Brown and animations and illustrations hand-drawn by Lucien Clough. It was showcased at the 2025 Oscillitarium Music Festival on Wolfe Island
ANIMATION
Continuing the work from THE UNNAMABLE, arise uses animated sequences to get inside the mind of its characters. This animation was hand-drawn by Lucien, painstakingly created by hours and hours of drawing, erasing, and redrawing.
COLLABORATION
While making the short, Luke and Lucien collaborated with a number of artists, working with a costume designer for both Sinis and Talia’s outfits, a choreographer to create Talia’s dance, and a pianist to develop and hone the soundtrack.
